who is this?
Hi, I’m Constanza, the heart and hands behind Matecito Argentine Treats. My journey started long before I even knew this dream could come true. Growing up in Argentina, baking was always part of my life. When I was 9 years old, my mom gifted me an electric oven, and that’s when the magic began. I would spend hours experimenting, often ignoring recipes (to both my joy and frustration) and letting my creativity guide me. Baking wasn’t just a hobby; it became a way to express myself, create, and connect.
As a teenager, I started selling my baked goods to friends and neighbors, but I never imagined it could become a career. After high school, I explored different paths—accounting, design, photography—trying to figure out where I fit. Numbers didn’t excite me, but creating always did. My photography studio gave me a creative outlet, and I found joy making smash cakes for my clients’ milestones. But something still felt missing.
When the pandemic hit, life got overwhelming. Like many people in their twenties, I faced a crisis of purpose, questioning what I truly wanted. That’s when I realized I needed a fresh start, an adventure. I left Argentina, my family, and my studio behind to move to the United States—a decision both exciting and heartbreaking. I missed home deeply, but my family supported me from afar, cheering me on and reminding me why I made this leap.
After nearly three years in the U.S., the homesickness didn’t fade—it grew stronger. I missed the flavors, the warmth, and the culture of home. Baking became my way of coping, a way to feel close to the life I left behind. It brought back memories of sharing mate and medialunas with loved ones. At the same time, I began falling in love with my new life here, discovering flavors and traditions that would soon feel like home too.
One day, while feeling lost in my career and tired of working a job that didn’t inspire me, I made a bold decision: to pursue my childhood dream and start a home bakery. That’s how Matecito Argentine Treats was born—a blend of my past and present, of Argentina and the U.S., of tradition and creativity.
I wouldn’t be here without the love and support of those around me. My family, even from thousands of miles away, encouraged me to follow my heart. And here in the U.S., I found a partner who became my rock. We met while climbing, and from that moment, he’s been by my side—sneaking medialunas out of every batch and cheering me on as I build this dream.
Matecito is my way of bringing a little piece of Argentina to those who miss it, like I do, and introducing it to those who have never experienced it. It’s a celebration of tradition with a creative twist because, let’s face it, I’ve never been great at following the recipe.
Thank you for reading my story and for being part of this journey. Through Matecito, I hope to bring joy, comfort, and a taste of home to everyone who takes a bite.
With love,
Constanza
